Welcome to the August devlog, this one may not be as content heavy as the others as a lot of the story has been reworked for both gameplay reasons and for a more immersive experience. a lot of the story is going to stay secret with it only be hinted at.

Terminal

Every shuttle issued comes with a terminal so it only makes sense for this program to feature just that. 

The below image is a screenshot of the current terminal system, here you will be able to enter commands. it is unlikely that this will directly effect gameplay or have a key mechanic in the game but rather be a means of providing additional information for those who seek it.
The Space Colonisation Institute (SCI) tend to leave behind dev commands that were meant to be taken out at release, but due to their lack of testing and rush to get more recruits there's a lot of left behind dev commands... might be helpful to know.

Button Table

Below is the current model of the button table. it is likely to stick as this model through the rest of the development. the buttons and positions of coords were roughly thrown together so no need to worry about them being in weird positions.
The coords and rotation of the rover will be displayed on the table as seen in the image, allowing you to use the map to position yourself.

Map

The map is a crucial part of the gameplay inside of Astrophobia so it only makes sense that the game have a map that allows the player to locate their position. The mapping system just like iron lung will not display player location directly but rather through coordinates on the map and on the table that the player will be able to refer to in order to locate where they are and need to go.

below is a portion of the map with the rest censored, this is just to illustrate what the map will look like. the icon in the middle of the map signifies a artifact, when hovered over it will display to the user the location of that artifact.


Artifact system improvement

Artifacts have now been improved and a step closer to the final state they will be in. When artifacts are photographed the map is updated with a tick texture to let the player know that it has been captured, along with saving that info so if the player were to reach a checkpoint then die it will know that the player has already photographed it.

Current state of the world

A world plunged into darkness, a state of chaos unrepairable. A world held hostage by an unknown force with every major city of every country littered with protestors, the economy has collapsed. 

A world ruled by fear is prone to be unstable and have protests. This is exactly what's happening here, people left upset with government responses to the crisis has left people angry and terrified for their future. if not even world governments can protect them then who can?
SCI promises to fill this role, give the people hope, bring them the safety they are after.

I would like to thank the gods of godot for releasing godot 3.5 as I was writing  this dev log. there are now label 3D nodes in the stable version of godot, this is a life changer and makes life easier.
